Photography Workshop on the Isle of May
Join me for an amazing day out photographing Puffins, Razorbills, Guillemots, and more on the wonderful Isle of May.
Overview
I want to help you get the best out of your camera by focusing on the best settings and techniques to achieve a variety of images including portrait, behavioural, and the classic flight shots.
To ensure you get our full attention, the maximum number I'll take on these workshops is 3 per trip. All skill levels are welcome so whether you've just picked up a camera or have been clicking the shutter for a while, I'll help you in any way needed and have some fun along the way.
We will sail on the May Princess from Anstruther and the trip is generally c5 hours all in. Departure times will be confirmed nearer the date once the sailing timetable has been released. Sailing times are based on the tide and the crew have the final say on whether sailings proceed in the event of inclement weather.
Dates
2025 dates TBC however, to take advantage of the activity seen around breeding season, which increases the number of birds on the island, I will be looking to run workshops from mid May through to mid July 2025.
I can usually only take weekend bookings ( I work full time and only have so much annual leave to play with unfortunately) Please contact me through my online form below to enquire about any dates that may be of interest. If you have a date in mind that isn't listed, please get in touch as I may be able to review potential options.
Cost
Prices of these workshops will be £200pp for the day which includes the cost of the boat transfer, tuition and guidance with both of us.
* prices are introductory and subject to review
Equipment Required
Please bring your camera and a lens. A focal length of 300mm+ is ideal for this type of photography.
A tripod or monopod isn’t essential, especially considering you’ll be carrying it around the island but you might find it useful if you'd like to take any video footage. Spare batteries & memory cards are recommended.
Sturdy footwear, weather appropriate clothing, and consider a hat for navigating the tern colony, if it’s during breeding season.
